Professor Ashok Ram is a highly regarded and experienced consultant paediatric and neonatal surgeon who currently practises at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. He specialises in paediatrics, neonatal surgery, congenital malformations, hernias in children, acid reflux in children, and abdominal pain in children

After graduating from the Institute of Medicine in Rangoon, Burma, he completed his postgraduate training in the UK, developing a keen subspeciality interest in neonatal surgery, thoracic, and upper gastrointestinal surgery. Apart from his passion for the surgical care of babies and children, he is also a very keen educationist and holds the positions of honorary lecturer at the University of East Anglia, regional training programme director, and director of advanced paediatric life support courses.

In addition, he founded, and currently directs and teaches on the Sprint Education Programme for paediatric surgery, which holds seminars and postgraduate exam preparation sessions attended by paediatric surgeons worldwide. He has presented at numerous international meetings and conferences and has received the Gold Medal from the European Board of Paediatric Surgery. Among the variety of techniques, articles, and eight textbook chapters he has authored is the chapter on Posterior Urethral Valves in the Oxford Textbook of Urological Surgery.
