Dr Barbara Carey is a highly accomplished consultant in oral medicine based in London, with expertise in the management of lichen planus, oral ulceration and pigmented lesions, alongside potentially malignant disorders, dry mouth and oral lumps and bumps. She privately practices at OS Clinic while her NHS base is Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Here, she is a substantive consultant in Oral Medicine and also manages patients with autoimmune blistering disease at the Oral Dermatology service at St John’s Institute of Dermatology.
Dr Carey graduated with distinction in dentistry (BDS, University College Cork) and medicine (MB BCh BAO, Trinity College Dublin) before completing advanced specialist training in oral medicine. Her academic achievements include postgraduate qualifications in academic practice and teaching from King’s College London and Queen Mary University London, as well as fellowship recognition (FFD and FDS Oral Medicine) from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She is a Member of the Faculty of Dental Trainers (RCS Edinburgh) and actively contributes to professional development in her field.

Dr Carey is a leader in her field, serving as honorary treasurer of the British and Irish Society for Oral Medicine (BISOM) and holding notable roles within the European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM) and the Senate of Additional Dental Specialties. She is widely published and recognised for her academic work, having won multiple prestigious awards for her case presentations and research.
