Dr Eva Carneiro is a renowned sports and exercise medicine specialist, with an impressive medical career that has pushed boundaries and been defined by many 'firsts' in the field. She was was one of the first eight doctors recruited in the United Kingdom to the Sports and Exertise Medicine Specialist Training Programme, for example.
After qualifying in 1999 from Nottingham, Dr Carneiro went on to work in Sydney, Australia at the New South Wales Institute of Sport and the Olympic Medal Institute, contributing to work for the Beijing Olympics. After completion of her Masters Degree in Sports Medicine where she investigated football hydration at West Ham United, Dr Carneiro began full-time work at Chelsea Football Club between 2009-2015. Here she was the First Team doctor when the club won the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and the League Cup.
At Chelsea Football Club, Dr Carneiro worked with seven distinguished football managers and she was the first woman to sit pitch-side during Champions League, Premier League and Europa League matches. She was also the only woman to date in the world to become Assistant Medical Director in a football club.
Currently, Dr Carneiro is working as a consultant for the Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Qatar in the lead up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. She also continues to practice in The Sports Medical Group on Harley Street.
