Dr Farrukh Shah is a leading consultant haematologist with a specialist interest in the management of haemoglobinopathies and the management of transfusional iron overload.
She is a leading specialist in the treatment of thalassaemia (major and intermedia) and her knowledge and expertise in this condition are demonstrated by her position as the lead for one of the largest centres for thalassaemia in the UK and book chapters she has contributed to regarding chelation therapy for the UK Thalassaemia guidelines. As well as for thalassaemia, she is internationally recognised as an expert in anaemia from various causes, iron deficiency, iron overload disorders and sickle cell disease.
Not only is she committed to first-class patient care, but she also participates in the training of future specialists by teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at University College London. Furthermore, Dr Shah's medical research has been published in several renowned peer-reviewed journals and she is the local and national investigator for numerous clinical trials involving thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
