Mr Gavin Heyes is an esteemed consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in foot and ankle, based in Belfast. He specialises in the treatment of foot and ankle trauma, sports injuries and arthroscopy, alongside bunion surgery, flat foot reconstruction, tenoscopy, all arthritic conditions and diabetic foot reconstruction. He privately practises at Kingsbridge Private Hospital and holds NHS positions at Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and Musgrave Park Hospital.

Mr Heyes qualified from Queens University Belfast Medical School in July 2008, where he completed an externship through Harvard Medical School at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, focusing on Trauma and Orthopaedics. He was awarded the Wilson Orthopaedics Medal for his performance in undergraduate Orthopaedics.

His postgraduate training in trauma and orthopaedics was completed in Northern Ireland, followed by a 12-month British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society-recognised fellowship with Mr Andy Molloy at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust (LUHFT).

In July 2019, Mr Heyes was appointed as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at LUFHT, a regional major trauma centre, where he served until August 2022. During his tenure, he was actively involved in research, training, education, and fellowship development. He was a core training lead. He joined the trauma and orthopaedic department at Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and Musgrave Park Hospital Belfast in August 2022 and is currently the foot and ankle lead.

Mr Heyes is widely published in the fields of trauma and foot and ankle surgery, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has presented at various national and international meetings and has been invited to lecture both nationally and internationally. His research contributions include seminal work in foot and ankle surgery, leading to multiple invitational review articles.

He is a member of several professional organisations, including the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, Irish Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society and the Orthopaedic Trauma Society. Mr Heyes remains dedicated to advancing his field through both clinical practice and ongoing research.
