Dr Geza Mezei

Professional statement

Dr Geza Mezei has been serving as a highly revered consultant in neurosurgery and stereotactic radiosurgery in Sheffield since 2018, with a particular focus on neuro-oncology and stereotactic radiosurgery. He currently practises at the Amethyst: Thornbury Radiosurgery Centre. 

He began his medical journey at the University of Szeged in Hungary, later earning his MD from the University of Debrecen in 2001. Throughout his education, Dr Mezei enhanced his expertise through scholarships and fellowships in Germany and Italy. Following his PhD fellowship and foundational training, Dr Mezei embarked on his neurosurgical career in Hungary, primarily training at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Debrecen.

In 2014, Dr Mezei transitioned to the UK, where he secured a fellowship in radiosurgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital under the mentorship of Mr. Radatz. After completing his fellowship, he continued to work at Hallamshire, expanding his experience in operative neurosurgery, as well as in leadership and management. He was officially appointed to a substantive consultant post in 2018.

Dr Mezei notably earned his PhD in 2015, specializing in neurosciences with a focus on neuro-oncology. His research interests include intraoperative tissue diagnosis and tumor genetics, leading to multiple peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and presentations at national and international conferences. In radiosurgery, Dr. Mezei is particularly interested in the treatment of large acoustic neuromas, metastatic brain tumors, and vascular malformations.
