Mr John Ferris is a highly established and well-regarded consultant ophthalmic surgeon who possesses extensive experience in the field of ophthalmology. He graduated from Bristol in 1989 and completed his ophthalmology training at esteemed institutions, including the Western Eye Hospital (London), Addenbrooke's Hospital (Cambridge), Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne), Great Ormond Street Hospital (London), and Moorfields Eye Hospital (London).
He has also served as head of ophthalmology training for the Severn Deanery and was a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Training Committee from 2010 to 2019. Since 1999, Mr Ferris has been a consultant ophthalmologist at the Gloucestershire Eye Unit, where he has contributed significantly to the field. Notably, Mr Ferris is the creator of the Simulated Ocular Surgery website, which has revolutionised ophthalmic surgical education worldwide.
He also developed the award-winning squintclinic.com, the leading strabismus patient information resource globally. Additionally, he founded cataractsurgeryinfo.com, a unique video-based website offering comprehensive guidance on cataract surgery, covering every step from consultation to discharge, as well as detailed information on intraocular lens options.
He is the author of three ophthalmology textbooks and has delivered invited lectures at ten international eye surgery conferences in recent years. In recognition of his contributions to ophthalmology and surgical training in the UK, Mr Ferris received a Bronze National Clinical Excellence Award in 2009.
