Mr John Ferris is a highly established and well-regarded consultant ophthalmic surgeon who possesses extensive experience in the field of ophthalmology. He graduated from Bristol in 1989 and completed his ophthalmology training at esteemed institutions, including the Western Eye Hospital (London), Addenbrooke's Hospital (Cambridge), Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne), Great Ormond Street Hospital (London), and Moorfields Eye Hospital (London).

He has also served as head of ophthalmology training for the Severn Deanery and was a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Training Committee from 2010 to 2019. Since 1999, Mr Ferris has been a consultant ophthalmologist at the Gloucestershire Eye Unit, where he has contributed significantly to the field. Most recently, in 2023, he was appointed as a Trustee of Orbis UK, a charity known for its Flying Eye Hospital initiative.
