Professional statement
Dr Mallika Sekhar is a distinguished consultant haematologist with extensive experience and a robust academic background. Her clinical and research interests focus on complex anaemias, cytopaenias, high blood counts, and chronic marrow disorders.
She graduated in Medicine from Grant Medical College, University of Bombay, and further honed her expertise through training in Mumbai, Vellore, NIH Bethesda in the U.S., and London, U.K. Dr Sekhar is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists.
Since 2011, she has been a Consultant Haematologist at the Royal Free London NHS Trust and University College Hospital, where she is also an Honorary Associate Professor. Dr Sekhar has been instrumental in developing multidisciplinary services for patients with myeloproliferative diseases and abdominal vein thrombosis and establishing the U.K. Mascot registry for this rare condition. She has contributed significantly to national policies in blood safety and has over fifty publications in the field.
Dr Sekhar is also deeply committed to education and innovation. She has taught Haematology extensively, served as a lead examiner for the FRCPAth Transfusion section, and completed advanced training at Harvard University’s Media and Medicine programme. Her research into medical errors has led to the creation of her podcast series, The Bitter Pill, which explores this critical area.
Currently, is practising at Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre and at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital.
