Mr Manish Desai is a highly experienced and renowned consultant in spinal cord injury and rehabilitation medicine, specialising in spinal cord injury, neurological rehabilitation, and trauma rehabilitation. He has been serving at The London Spinal Cord Injury Centre, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust, Stanmore, since June 2012.
Mr Desai oversees the care of approximately 550–600 complex spinal injury patients annually in his outpatient clinic. Additionally, he is responsible for a minimum of 14 inpatients at any given time, providing specialised rehabilitation at the London SCIC and other private facilities. His work reflects his commitment to improving outcomes for individuals with challenging spinal conditions.
Mr Desai completed his specialist training in rehabilitation medicine in Newcastle upon Tyne, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland from 2007 to 2011. His academic contributions include nine peer-reviewed publications, with one currently under submission. He has presented his research at numerous national and international conferences and is frequently invited as a speaker to share his expertise.
Dedicated to education, Mr Desai actively teaches postgraduate trainees, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London, and serves as the Regional Specialty Advisor for Rehabilitation Medicine, appointed by the Royal College of Physicians. Additionally, he holds an honorary position as a clinical senior lecturer at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, University College London. In 2016, his exceptional contributions were recognised with the "Best Services for Tetraplegia" award by the sports charity "Regain."
