Professor Marios Papadopoulos is a leading consultant neurosurgeon based in London, who specialises in spinal surgery, vascular malformations and sciatica alongside slipped disc, back pain and spinal stenosis treatment. He privately practises at New Victoria Hospital while his NHS base is St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Professor Papadopoulos, who is the chairman of the Neurosciences Research Foundation and the lead investigator of the ISCoPE trial for spinal cord injury, is highly qualified. He has a BA and MD from the University of Cambridge, a BM BCh from the University of Oxford, an FRCS and FRCS in Surgical Neurology from the Royal College of Surgeons.
He is highly respected for his research in the neurosurgery field, and has developed novel treatments for acute and chronic spinal cord injuries such as neuromonitoring from the injury site in the intensive care unit, as well as spinal cord blood flow monitoring in the operating theatre to minimise the risks of surgery. Furthermore he's also developed a new operation for spinal cord injury termed expansion duroplasty.
He is also renowned for his academic leadership, having supervised the training of several neurosurgeons from the UK and overseas who are now consultants.
