Dr Mark Gillett is a consultant in sports and exercise medicine at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and has been the Chief Medical Officer of the Premier League since 2018. He specialises in ankle, foot, hip, and knee injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, concussions, and arthritis of the foot, ankle, and knee.
Dr Gillett completed his undergraduate medical degree in 1992 at the University of London and went on to do a fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow in 1992. He has a further Sports Medicine Master’s degree from the University of Nottingham. He undertook higher specialist Emergency Medicine training in the West Midlands in 2003.
Dr Gillett has had an extensive career in sports medicine and injuries. He is a founding fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, and was a sports physician for five years at the English Institute of Sport. In 2008 he became the first team doctor for Chelsea Football Club, was appointed Director of Performance for West Bromwich Albion Football Club in 2010 and moved to Nottingham Forest Football Club in 2018. He was the Chief Medical Officer for Team GB’s men’s and women’s basketball squads during the 2012 London Olympics, and in 2008 was a foundational part of the establishment of the Football Association’s AREA pre-hospital care training course.
Dr Gillett is deeply passionate about sports medicine and performance, and strives to use his expertise to ensure the long-term safety and health — mental and phsyical — of the athletes and patients under his care. He is dedicated to nurturing a culture of inclusion and excellence within the Premier League, to support its goal of ensuring the best football experience for both fans and the nation.

I had an excellent experience with Mark. He was attentive, knowledgable, professional and very experienced. He quickly identified the real issue with my knee and immediate took appropriate action and had me up and walking without crutches in no time . He doesn’t delegate tasks, but performs them himself so you have the extra assurance that the procedure is performed by the expert. He has a professional manner and listened carefully to my issues and sort to generate workable solutions .I feel lucky to have been referred to him and could not be happier with the outcome .

As a sciatic patient I would highly recommend Dr Gillett. His diagnosis was straight to the issue with a successful outcome. If needed I will request a consultation with Mark specifically in the future.

I don't know where to start. I was referred to Dr Mark due to an acute episode of extreme sciatic pain and was waiting a long time for an MRI on the NHS.
Mark was extremely empathetic and understanding, saw me very quickly and identified an MRI was needed urgently MRI and i was in one almost immediately.
He then called me directly due to what was found, arranged emergency care (contacting me directly throughout) and I was in surgery within hours. The fact I live virtually pain free and can freely walk and run is very likely entirely thanks to Dr Mark and the team.
After this the post operative care for the next 12 months was also excellent and really helped my recovery massively.
Will never be able to express the impact it made to my life, let alone repay it.

Brilliant Doctor - He's attended me on multiple occasions for sports related injuries or general musculoskeletal issues. Each time, he's put in place a solid treatment plan to get me back to good health. Different to other Doctors in that he will provide treatment plan focusing on what you can do rather than what you can't do.Perfect for people who want to recover quickly and still stay active. He also works really closely with his team physios etc specifying the exercises so you have a very hands on approach compared to other Doctors who just refer you third party providers and have no idea how you are progressing. I've wasted time going to other Doctors in the past and made no progress and wish I had just gone straight to him!

I received treatment from Dr Mark Gillett for ongoing ACJ shoulder pain and an ankle impingement. Both treatments are ongoing but since working with Mark & his fabulous team, I have had more and more pain free days. After seeing other consultants and not really getting anywhere, seeing Mark and his team has been a game changer. I would throughly recommend his services
