Phlebitis is usually due to clot in the superficial veins of the legs. Phlebitis should NOT be treated with antibiotics. Anyone who thinks they have, or have been told that they have, phlebitis MUST have a venous DUPLEX ULTRASOUND scan - otherwise the diagnosis might be wrong and the wrong treatment might be given.
