Mr Matthew Ricks is a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in upper limb surgery. His areas of expertise include shoulder surgery, hand and wrist surgery and upper limb joint replacement alongside cuff repair, labral repair for shoulder instability and Dupuytren’s contracture. He privately practices at Sussex Premier Health Hastings, The Horder Centre and The Montefiore Hospital. His NHS base is East Sussex Healthcare Trust.
Mr Ricks is highly qualified with a first class honours BSc and two Master's Degrees. He completed his orthopaedic surgical training in the Wessex region. Here, he spent time doing complex tertiary trauma and elective upper limb work at a trauma unit. He then went on to undertake international upper limb fellowships in Nice, France and Melbourne, Australia. He also did an upper limb fellowship at dedicated orthopaedic hospital at Wrightington Hospital and was subsequently appointed as a consultant there.
Furthermore he was awarded the prestigious BESS travelling shoulder fellowship where he visited North America, and the Watanabe travelling fellowship. He has also been awarded the Ethicon and Barbers awards, and has spent time abroad developing upper limb operative skills.
Mr Ricks, who previously help committee positions in the European Shoulder and Elbow Society and the British Hand Society, is a member of both of these organisations. He's also a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, and the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society.
