Dr Mowafak Abdelghani is a leading consultant in pain medicine and anaesthesia based in Manchester who specialises in the medical management of chronic pain, back pain, neck pain, and sciatica, as well as fibromyalgia, headaches, and postoperative pain. With over 25 years’ experience, he provides both simple and complex x-ray and ultrasound-guided treatments, including joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and nerve blocks.
Dr Abdelghani, who is the founder of Piccadilly Medical, currently consults privately at Spire Manchester Hospital and at The Alexandra Hospital. Additional to his private practice, Dr Abdelghani is also a consultant at Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the clinical lead for the chronic pain services at three hospitals: Manchester Royal Infirmary, Trafford General Hospital, and Altrincham General Hospital.
Dr Abdelghani originally qualified from Ain Shams University in 1998, becoming one of the youngest medical graduates in all Egypt at the age of 22. He completed an MSc in Anaesthesia and a four-year training rotation as well, before relocating to the UK. Dr Abdelghani went on to accomplish further training in north Wales, Mersey and Surrey, and later also undertook five years of higher specialist training on the prestigious Northwest Deanery. In 2014, Dr Abdelghani was awarded a highly sought-after year-long fellowship in advanced pain medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
A prominent figure in his specialty, Dr Abdelghani is also a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Pain Medicine, and a member of various professional organisations, including the British Pain Society. He has a well-established interest in clinical research, and has authored peer-reviewed publications and several book chapters alike, published both in the UK and the USA.
