Dr Nadeem Ahmad Afzal is a leading tertiary consultant paediatric gastroenterologist, hepatology and nutrition based in Southampton and Basingstoke. He offers specialist diagnostic and therapeutic paediatric gastroscopies and colonoscopies and his clinical specialities include inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhoea, food intolerances and allergies, intestinal bleeding, vomiting and reflux.
Dr Afzal trained across various teaching hospitals, including the prestigious Great Ormond Street, Barts, Royal Free and Kings College hospitals. In 2010, Dr Afzal gained his doctorate from University College London studying the role of nutrition in paediatric inflammatory bowel disease. He serves as a tertiary paediatric gastroenterology specialist in Southampton and has been heavily involved in teaching and leading an active research programme as senior clinical lecturer at the School of Medicine, Southampton since 2010.
Dr Afzal is also kept busy with additional commitments, including serving as Editor-in-Chief for the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, National secretary for British Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition group and currently serves as an expert adviser for the Centre for Clinical Practice at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
