Dr Olympia Tsilochristou is a distinguished Consultant Allergist for adults based in London. She is on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist register for Allergy. Her areas of expertise include allergic rhinitis / hay fever, allergen immunotherapy (aka desensitisation) to house dust mites, pollen and pets, food allergies, anaphylaxis, eczema (atopic dermatitis), and urticaria. In addition to a detailed clinical history, she bases her diagnosis on individualised allergy skin prick tests and allergy blood tests.
Dr Tsilochristou consults privately at HCA The Shard Outpatients which is part of London Bridge Hospital. She offers face to face and virtual consultations. With over 15 years’ experience in Allergy, the last 5 years she also serves as a Consultant Allergist at the largest NHS allergy department in the UK at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, where she is one of the leading clinicians in the complex food allergy clinic and is the Quality Improvement Lead for allergy in the Trust.
Dr Tsilochristou qualified with an MD from the University of Ioannina, Greece. After completing the core medical training, she started her higher specialist training in Allergy in 2010 in Athens, Greece. As part of her Allergy training, she wone a clinical fellowship from the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology to join the allergy research team at Carlos Haya University Hospital in Malaga, Spain where she trained in local allergic rhinitis and nasal provocation tests. Dr Tsilochristou completed her PhD in allergic rhinitis from the Medical School of the National Kapodistrian University in Athens.
Moreover, Dr Tsilochristou received a research fellowship from the Clemens von Pirquet Foundation to relocate to Berlin in 2015, where she spent a year as a research fellow in molecular allergology at Charité University Berlin. This was followed up by research posts at King’s College London where she joined the prestigious clinical research teams led by the esteemed Professors Lack, du Toit, and Till, to undertake research in food allergies and novel treatments for allergic rhinitis.
Last but not least, Dr Tsilochristou combines her clinical skills with a background of an active academic work. She has co-authored the European Guidelines on Allergen Immunotherapy for Allergic Rhinitis, among other works. She is the Abstract Lead for the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology annual Congress and has sat in the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology executive committee for years. She serves as a reviewer in peer-reviewed Journals in Allergy and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Allergy and Hypersensitivity Diseases.
