Professor Paolo de Coppi is an esteemed consultant paediatric surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital, with the title of reader and head of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine at the Institute of Child Health in London. He is also an honorary professor at several international institutions including the University of Padua, and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He has a special interest in congenital malformations and their treatment, with the use of minimally invasive techniques.
Professor de Coppi's research interests include the study of stem cells and tissue engineering, and he was part of the team that performed the first successful transplant of a tissue-engineered trachea at Great Ormond Street. He is widely published, with over 150 peer-reviewed articles, and is the senior editor for the Stem Cell Translational Medicine journal. He has also supervised numerous PhD students and research fellows in their work.
