Mr Philip Ahrens is a distinguished consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in London who specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery. His areas of expertise include shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, joint replacement, sports injuries, and shoulder and elbow pain.
Mr Ahrens consults privately at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and at Cleveland Clinic London Portland Place Outpatient Centre. Notably, he is the vice-chief of the Integrated Surgical Institute and Chair of Orthopaedics at Cleveland Clinic London. He served as a consultant shoulder and elbow surgeon for the London 2012 Olympic Games and holds an honorary consultant post for St Luke’s Hospital for the Clergy.
With over 30 years of experience, Mr Ahrens also performs specialist shoulder and elbow surgery at St John and St Elizabeth Hospital, The Wellington Hospital, and the Royal Free Hospital Hampstead, where he practises since 2003 and served as orthopaedic departmental clinic lead.
Mr Ahrens qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1992. He undertook his postgraduate training in London, followed by a prestigious fellowship in shoulder surgery in Nice, France. In 2004, Mr Ahrens was recognised with the highly sought-after European travelling fellowship by the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.
Furthermore, Mr Ahrens is a member of the North Central London Clinical Network board and also serves as research lead and advisor for the National Institute of Health Research. He sat on the research committee of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. He is also the lead investigator for multicentre clinical trials and other research projects, and a reviewer for international medical journals.
