Mr Rami Issa

Professional statement

Mr Rami Issa is a highly experienced consultant urological surgeon specialising in benign prostate enlargement, bladder problems and overactive bladder, alongside prostate cancer, urinary incontinence and robotic surgery in urology. He practises at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre, and his NHS base is St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Issa graduated with his MD from the University of Damascus in 1993, where he also completed specialist certificates in general surgery (1996) and urology (2001). He was awarded the Certificate of the Arab Board in Urology in 2002 before moving to the UK to further his career. Mr Issa went on to achieve the Fellowship of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) in 2006 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Urology (FRCS Urol) in 2007. To further enhance his expertise, he undertook advanced robotic-assisted surgical training in Bordeaux, France, and Malmö, Sweden, focusing on bladder and prostate cancer.

He was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at St George’s in 2010, and later became Clinical Lead for Urological Cancer in 2016. He is recognised as a national expert in the medical and surgical management of bladder and prostate cancers, and skilled in both open and minimally invasive (robotic) surgical techniques. Mr Issa is one of a small number of UK surgeons performing robotic-assisted bladder removal with reconstruction of a new bladder (bladder substitution) using keyhole surgery. He also offers advanced therapies for refractory non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, such as mitomycin hyperthermia, which combines chemotherapy with thermotherapy to help avoid surgical bladder removal.

Mr Issa is an active member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) and the European Association of Urology, ensuring he remains at the forefront of innovation in urological care. Mr Issa’s expertise enables him to offer tailored solutions for complex urological conditions, ensuring optimal outcomes for his patients.
