Mr Ranjit Deshpande areas of expertise:
Professional statement
Mr Ranjit Deshpande is a senior consultant in cardiothoracic surgery who specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) cardiac and thoracic surgery and is a prominent member of King’s Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) programme. His expertise also extends to general cardiothoracic surgery.
Renowned for his innovative techniques, Mr Deshpande frequently uses bilateral internal mammary arteries during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) to achieve near-total arterial revascularisation for ischemic heart disease. He is internationally recognised for performing endoscopic CABG as a “beating heart” procedure, avoiding the need for sternotomy.
Mr Deshpande completed his training through the South-East Thames London Cardiothoracic Surgical Programme. He earned a prestigious scholarship from the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons to train in port-access endoscopic mitral valve repair for mitral valve prolapse at OLV Zeinkenhaus in Belgium. In 2006, he advanced his expertise further as a Senior Registrar in Advanced Aortic and Robotic Cardiac Surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.
A vital member of the South London Cardiac Network’s complex major aortic surgery group, Mr Deshpande focuses on challenging cases such as aortic root and aortic dissection surgery. He is also the founder and treasurer of the British and Irish Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery, reflecting his leadership in advancing the field of minimally invasive cardiac procedures.
