Professor Richard Keen is a renowned consultant rheumatologist based in London. He treats patients with osteoporosis, Paget's disease and bone disorders such as metabolic bone disease. His clinical interests include osteogenesis imperfecta, fibrous dysplasia, fracture repair and bone stress responses.

Professor Richard Keen graduated from St Mary's Hospital in London in 1988. After general medical posts in London and Sheffield, he started professional training in rheumatology. He went on to develop his specialist interest in osteoporosis. As a research fellow at St. Thomas' Hospital in London, Professor Keen studied the genetic regulation of postmenopausal osteoporosis. He was awarded Young Investigator awards by the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) and the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).

Professor Keen is now the director of the metabolic bone disease unit at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He also holds a senior lecturer appointment at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science, part of the University College London. Professor Keen is in charge of a clinical research team and is currently an investigator on several research studies to evaluate new treatments for fracture healing, osteoporosis, and other metabolic bone disorders.

Professor Keen is the chief investigator for the ZODIAC Study, it is currently assessing the role of bisphosphonates in the management of bone loss following spinal cord injury. He runs the VIDEO Study, an ARC funded clinical trial examining the effect of vitamin D supplementation on symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. He has also contributed research to a wide range of medical peer-reviewed medical journals.
