Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood is a highly respected consultant orthopaedic surgeon at The London Hip Unit. She specialises in hip replacement, hip prosthesis, arthroplasty, osteoarthritis of the hip, hip dysplasia and anterior hip replacement. She is widely recognised as one of the most experienced surgeons in the UK for hip replacements and a pioneer in hip revision surgery and alternative hip replacement approaches, including the two-incision and OCM direct anterior methods.
As a member of various esteemed organisations such as the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society, International Hip Society, European Hip Society, Royal Society of Medicine, and Royal College of Surgeons, Miss Muirhead-Allwood received the Royal College of Surgeons Robert Jones Lectureship and Medal in 2021 for her significant contributions to hip surgery.
Throughout her career, she has published numerous papers and book chapters and has been a speaker at national and international conferences. Miss Muirhead-Allwood has actively collaborated with orthopaedic manufacturers and university departments to develop new techniques and prostheses. Her research includes work with the biomedical engineering department at University College London and the mechanical engineering department at Imperial College London.
Specialising in hip revision and replacement for various hip conditions, she also focuses on hip developmental problems like avascular necrosis. Miss Muirhead-Allwood, who treats adults of all ages, continues to perform hip resurfacing, particularly for young and active patients.
