Dr Sheelaj Sharma is an esteemed consultant anaesthetist working at Basildon and Thurrock University NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also the lead for regional anaesthesia training. Dr Sharma trained in London at St Bartholomew's School of Anaesthesia, a world leader in major trauma and pain medicine training. His specialist interests include regional anaesthesia and acute pain management in trauma orthopaedics.
Dr Sharma is a founding member of the British Anaesthesia and Pain Academy (BAPA), which, under his guidance, is currently working towards expanding training in regional anaesthesia on both a national and international level. Dr Sharma is heavily involved in education and training and is a regular faculty at workshops organised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists among others. He recently launched a collaborative regional anaesthesia course, bringing together and integrating teams across five major Essex hospitals. Dr Sharma is currently involved in a training collaboration between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma team, which looks to train emergency department doctors in regional anaesthesia for acute pain management in trauma.
