Dr Shiva Mongolu

Dr Shiva Mongolu is a consultant physician specialising in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolism at Hull University Hospitals NHS Trust. He completed his specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology in Wessex in 2014 and began his consultant career as a locum consultant endocrinologist in Southampton before joining Hull in January 2015.

With over nine years of clinical experience, Dr Mongolu focuses on conditions such as pituitary and adrenal diseases, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and gynaecological endocrinology. He is also highly skilled in managing diabetes and a range of endocrinological conditions, including thyrotoxicosis, hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, adrenal insufficiency, pituitary disorders, and obesity. Dr. Mongolu is deeply involved in multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaborations.

He established and chairs the regional adrenal MDT and is a core member of the regional Pituitary and Thyroid MDTs, where he contributes significantly to improving patient care. His efforts have enhanced the management of complex cases, ensuring comprehensive, team-based approaches to treatment. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Mongolu is a passionate educator and innovator.

He serves as an honorary senior lecturer at Hull York Medical School and has taken on leadership roles in medical training programmes, including as a Training Programme Director for foundation and internal medicine training. Dr. Mongolu has been instrumental in advancing healthcare services by establishing MDTs, authoring trust guidelines, and developing pathways for managing adrenal incidentalomas. His commitment to research is evident through his active participation in clinical trials, working closely with academic partners.

Currently, Dr. Mongolu holds the roles of clinical governance and educational lead within his department. He is dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care and fostering high-quality training for future healthcare professionals. His comprehensive approach ensures innovation and excellence in both patient care and medical education.
