Mr Simon Atkinson is a highly experienced consultant pancreaticobiliary and general surgeon based in London, with expertise in various areas including gallbladder surgery, gallstones, hernia surgery, pancreatic cancer, pancreas surgery, and pancreatitis.
With over 35 years of experience, Mr Atkinson currently serves as a Consultant Pancreaticobiliary & General surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic London and the Cleveland Clinic London Rapid Access Gallbladder Unit. In addition, he holds Consultant posts at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust and Kings College Hospital NHS Trust.
Mr Atkinson first qualified with an MBBS from the Royal London Medical College, University of London, in 1987. He then went on to achieve an FRCS(Gen) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992, followed by a higher surgical degree (MS) awarded in 1997. His MS was granted for his research work in critical illness in the surgical patient. He completed his higher surgical training in general, pancreaticobiliary, and upper gastrointestinal surgery in London and South East England. He was awarded a Surgical Fellowship as a Senior Surgical Fellow in Perth, Western Australia.
He is also currently lead for clinical governance in GI surgery at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital and has previously served as Clinical Lead for Gastrointestinal Surgery both at Guy's & St Thomas' and Clinical Lead for HPB Surgery at King's College Hospital. He is a member of the Great Britain & Ireland Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (GBIHPBA) and the Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS). He also works as a Medical Examiner and is a member of the Royal College of Pathologists Medical Examiner section.
