I had a minor inguinal hernia, repaired by Simon Atkinson at the Cleveland Clinic, London, ten weeks ago, in May 2024. My initial consultation with him was at St Thomas’ Hospital London, and I was impressed with his friendly manner and his obvious knowledge and professionalism. He was kind and clear in explaining the options available to me: do nothing (he rated my hernia as only 2 out of 10 in severity), have a laparoscopic (key-hole) repair, or an open (normal) hernia repair. He listened to my concerns and answered all my questions in a manner that put me completely at ease, and he made me feel absolutely happy that he was to be my surgeon. My choice was to have an open repair privately. I’m very pleased with the results, which is a testament to his surgical ability, and at my six-week post-op review he explained the time it would take me to get back to full fitness. If I ever need another hernia repair, or indeed if I need to be treated for any problem in his area of expertise, then I would choose to have him operate on me again.

Dr Simon Atkinson is an absolutely outstanding consultant and general surgeon who also specialises in gastrointestinal surgery. I was so fortunate that he was the consultant duty surgeon working on the weekend a year ago when I was rushed to St Thomas hospital where he didn’t hesitate to perform a dangerous and life saving operation on me - he saved my life - literally. I am so grateful to Dr Atkinson and his fabulous team where I was later cared for at London Bridge hospital. I went to see him a few weeks ago for a check up at Cleveland Clinic to ensure I was healing ok. The scar is also healing and appears significantly better now because Dr Atkinson took great care when he performed the operation. Dr Atkinson is a formidable and brilliant surgeon who cares for his patients with great kindness, empathy and understanding. He listens to your concerns and is very patient and importantly he is an expert surgeon who will take the greatest care of you. And he has a dry and witty sense of humour! Dr Atkinson always called me back during aftercare if I had any concerns and that is a great relief. I absolutely highly recommend him to anyone requiring specialist surgical care.

I first met Mr Atkinson in 2016. He was very thorough listened to my problems , spent time with me to go over everything. I then proceeded for surgery and I was treated with great respect and kindness throughout.. I then needed a further operation and again the level of service I received was excellent. Mr Atkinson has followed through with his care for me ever since. I would highly recommend Mr Atkinson and his team especially with his aftercare . Carry on the excellent work you do.

He took his time to understand my specific concerns, he was very through with his approach and shortly after I felt reassured that he was the right surgeon to proceed with my gallstone procedure. I am very happy with the outcome of my procedure. Mr Atkinson and his team deserve the recognition and applause for delivering outstanding quality of care that exceeded all my expectations. Trust. During my Pr-op, Consultations, day of the op, post up and all follow ups. Mr Simon Atkinson was, and is a perfect professional gentleman. I trust him 100%. Listening. Mr Simon Atkinson shows empathy, kindness, attentiveness, and has excellent manner. He explains everything simply too. I do very much appreciate all staff who work tirelessly at our precious NHS. However, selfishly when it came to having an operation on both my Gall Bladder and Oesophagus I tracked down whom I consider the Best, and although I live in Kent. I choose Mr Simon Atkinson and Guys and St Thomas's. Thank you. Godbless.
