Mr Simon Monkhouse

Mr Simon Monkhouse is a highly regarded consultant upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon who specialises in various weight loss surgeries such as gastric balloons, gastric bypasses, and sleeve gastrectomies. To date, Mr Monkhouse has performed over 1,000 bariatric surgical procedures as a consultant surgeon and over 1,000 Allurion balloons. He currently practises at the first UK centre of excellence for the procedure and it is still the UK’s most experienced Allurion provider. 

Mr Monkhouse completed his medical education at the University of Cambridge, graduating with top honours and receiving the Senior Whitby Scholarship for academic excellence. He underwent extensive training in bariatric units in Bristol, Taunton, and Newcastle, and holds a dedicated fellowship in bariatric surgery. His clinical interests also include keyhole surgeries for hernias, gallbladders, and anti-reflux procedures.

Mr Monkhouse is known for his patient-centric approach, providing comprehensive care before and after surgery, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team including dietitians and psychotherapists to ensure holistic support for his patients. His commitment to patient care has earned him several awards, such as the "Your Care Matters" award in 2015 and the "Certificate of Excellence" from iwantgreatcare in 2018. Additionally, he is actively involved in training future surgeons and has initiated national programs to enhance the quality of bariatric surgery.
