I don’t have much to add. Mr Colegate Stone was on time, friendly, seemed to understand the problem, explained it and possible treatments to me in a way that was clear and understandable. Much appreciated.

Mr Colegate-Stone is a very professional but, genuinely caring surgeon. He answered all my questions, even the silly ones, reassuring me at every step of the process.

I was nervous about having surgery after having many previously. I was immediately put at ease and given multiple options in what I wanted to do. I went with surgery and was handled with such care and even though barely a week out, I am out of pain that I had not even recognised and have more movement in my shoulder. What was most important though was I was believed. Have had so many times where I was told it was in my head but now I know it isn’t. I understand how to manage my symptoms better. Thank you for making me feel so much better not only physically but mentally too.

I presented with a shattered right collar bone. I expressed to Toby my concerns regarding any risk of foreshortening the bone due to the bone loss in the break. I also discussed how to manage the fixation and what it meant for my sporting activities. Toby is an experienced sportsman himself and I immediately identified with his fabulous empathy and interest. 28 days after the surgery I was back in a 3 day bike race in the Dolomites, having managed very carefully to maintain some fitness in the intervening month, nearly all on a stationary indoor trainer. Toby cautiously guided how I might manage this so as not compromise the healing and repair. He was an absolute delight to work with. The plate on my collar bone is very comfortable, the scar is absolutely minimal, and the function of my shoulder is fully restored.

Following a car accident (hit in back on M25 slip road exiting) things were delayed when first my notes were lost and then my my excellent NHS consultant retired! In the end I was fortunate enough to be ‘given’ to Mr Colgate-Stone. Being a renal patient he took every care and liaised with Guys. Surgery was the last resort but result was more than I could have hoped for - and no complications renal wise. He kept me on his books for 18 months to ensure problem really sorted! Couldn’t have asked for better care in every area.
