Mr Tryfon Vainas is a renowned consultant vascular surgeon practising at the Circulation Clinic in Nottingham. His areas of expertise include aortic aneurysms, swollen legs, carotid artery disease, stroke prevention and peripheral vascular disease.
Mr Vainas graduated from the Medical School of Maastricht University, The Netherlands and later went on to complete his PhD at the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Maastricht University. After completion of his training, he was appointed as a senior clinical fellow at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College NHS Trust, London. In 2011, he then became a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at Groningen University Medical Centre in The Netherlands, where he practised general vascular surgery, but more specifically, complex open, endovascular and hybrid aortic reconstructions. Then in 2015, Mr Vainas became a consultant at University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust.
Mr Vainas has a keen interest in research and was awarded his PhD in vascular biology/medicine for pre-clinical and translational research into the role of inflammation in the development of atherosclerosis. He is currently involved in clinical trials and systematic reviews, making sure that his patients benefit from the latest scientific and technological developments in vascular disease.
