Professional statement
Dr Wedad Abdelrahman is a fully qualified UK-trained consultant dermatologist, registered with the General Medical Council, with a special interest in paediatric and medical dermatology.
After graduating from Queen's University of Belfast with distinction, she completed her four-year speciality training programme in the Northern Ireland deanery. Before completing training, Dr Abdelrahman embarked on a prestigious fellowship on the therapeutic use of laser, working alongside plastic surgeons at one of the UK leading centres for burns and plastic Surgery in Swansea. She was the second dermatologist in the UK to achieve this.
In 2018 Dr Abdelrahman went on to complete a sought-after fellowship in medical dermatology at the world-renowned centre- St John's Institute (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), looking after medically complex patients with inflammatory and immunobullous skin diseases. She now works as a consultant dermatologist at St John's, running paediatric and adult clinics as well as tertiary specialist clinics.
Dr Abdelrahman has published and presented extensively, both at a national and international level. She has a keen interest in medical education and holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Education affiliated with Queen's University of Belfast. She is extensively involved in teaching of undergraduates from King's College London as well as postgraduates on the MSc programme in clinical dermatology.
Additionally, Dr Abdelrahman was the national chief investigator for a commercial clinical trial for paediatric psoriasis.
