Professor Mohamed Imam is an exceptionally skilled consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in upper limb surgery, sports injuries, and complex trauma.
Professor Imam uses the latest technology in diagnosing a wide range of upper limb conditions. He has gained leading expertise in the diagnosis and management of wrist, shoulder, hand and elbow conditions, and is highly skilled in the treatment of sports injuries. Among his repertoire of procedures are major shoulder tendon repair, upper body tendon tears, joint preservation, joint replacement, cartilage regeneration, and reconstruction surgery.
Furthermore, Professor Imam specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to treat numerous conditions, including arthritis, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder and tendonitis, as well as wrist and hand conditions such as Dupuytren's contracture and cubital tunnel syndrome.
His extensive specialist training took place in the UK and internationally. In fact, he has been awarded multiple awards and international travelling fellowships, including a fellowship with Professor Christian Gerber, the world-leading pioneer of modern shoulder surgery, at Der Balgrist University Orthopaedic Centre of excellence in Zurich, Switzerland. What's more, he undertook travelling fellowships to gain up-to-date international experiences in Mayo Clinic, The Steadman clinic (the US Olympic team centre of excellence) and Stanford University.
Research is another area of Professor Imam's career. He is the chief investigator of leading national and international studies. His work is widely recognised, and he has published more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in top international medical journals and written more than 12 textbook chapters on upper limb injuries.
Professor Imam has accomplished many achievements throughout his career. He has designed orthopaedic instruments, designed and published different techniques, and authored two books. One of these books surrounding the theme of the use of stem cells in orthopaedics and another concerning shoulder arthroscopy. He regularly presents his research at various national and international meetings. Currently, Professor Imam, with an elite team of researchers, is investigating the use of artificial and machine intelligence in surgery.

I have seen Dr Imam few times in the NHS. He operated on me and I wanted to give him my greatest thanks for the lovely work and more importantly the amazing attitude he had. I had a previous surgery by another consultant before and it did not go well. I was referred to the proff for his expert opinion. i thought i will never move my elbow again but he made me at ease and showed me illustrations of what he is going to do. i had what looked like a huge surgery and he was reassuring and confident from the beginning. he made me feel at ease. he made me feel i am his only patient. I could not be happier and i could not be more grateful. THANK YOU!!

On first meeting Professor Imam, i was immediately put at ease. His aurora was amazing, kind, professional, humble, i felt at total ease.
He was already advised of my case, being a little complex, his expert knowledge gave me immense confidence immediately.
After explaining to me what needed to be done & also what he may need to do when going into the site if things are worse than the MRI had shown.
Aftercare was excellent saw me twice before i went home & i was only a day case.
i am having a second appointment at the Runnymede hospital this week.
100% excellent care from start to finish a wonderful gentleman, professor & surgeon,
so pleased to have been given the opportunity to be in his care.

It was a pleasure meeting Professor Imam who is very cheerful, humble and extremely knowledgable. He did urgent surgery on me and he reviewed me after surgery and after two weeks and immediately, I can see a huge benefit!

Mr Imam operated on my elbow which was completely dislocated and broken. One of the doctors told me he is the expert in managing these here and I was referred to his fracturec clinic. I saw him, He spent time explaining everything to me and showed me pictures and different options. He spoke to the radiology department and made them do Ct on the elbow on the same day. I had the surgery and immediately I could feel a difference. it has been 9 weeks since the surgery and I am delighted with everything. He is indeed an expert and I could not recommend him enough. Thanks Mr Imam, and thanks to everyone in St Peters and Ashford hospitals.

Mr Imam spent the time with me explaining the issues with my shoulders in detail, giving an honest opinion, empathetically. We have gone down the conservative route for now with steroid injections but I am aware that surgery may be necessary for the future. He is very passionate and knowledgable about shoulders. Two minutes down the line, you would feel fully at ease!
I can not recommend him enough!

I had a complex elbow fracture after being hit by a car! There was a dislocation in the joint and everyone I have seen told me it is a complex fracture and the results will be bad :(
I was referred to Mr Imam as I was told he is the expert in managing these injuries and he was indeed. He spent time in his NHS clinic telling me about my injuries and he reassured me. He even showed me pictures and showed detailed illustrations of what is needed. He was obviously the expert and demonstrated a lot of knowledge. I even asked if I can have it done privately with him and he told me no need as this can be done quickly in the NHS as it is an emergency!!
I had the surgery before things went wrong and to my surprise, I am significantly better and seriously I can not praise him enough as well as the amazing NHS team working with him in Ashford and St Peter's!!
