Trabectome surgery to treat glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that causes the progressive loss of fibres in the optic nerve, whose proper functioning is essential for clear vision. This is caused by a high level of intraocular pressure in the eye. To treat glaucoma, and prevent further deterioration of the vision, the intraocular pressure needs to be lowered, which can be achieved in various ways. Mr Atul Bansal, leading consultant ophthalmic surgeon and glaucoma specialist, explains how trabectome surgery is used to treat glaucoma.
