Dizziness is a common experience, encompassing various sensations like feeling lightheaded, faint, unsteady, or off balance. While it can be unsettling, dizziness itself isn't usually a cause for serious concern. Here, esteemed consultant ENT surgeon, Professor Ahmed Allam, tells us about some of the most effective home remedies for dizziness.

What causes dizziness?

Several factors can disrupt your body's balance system, leading to dizziness. These include inner ear problems, dehydration, low blood pressure, medication side effects, and anxiety.

What are the symptoms of dizziness?

Dizziness can manifest in various ways, including feeling lightheaded, woozy, or like you might faint. You might experience vertigo, a spinning sensation, or feel unsteady on your feet.

How is the cause of dizziness diagnosed?

Doctors diagnose dizziness by considering your medical history, symptoms, and a physical exam. Depending on the suspected cause, further tests like blood tests or balance assessments might be needed.

How is dizziness treated?

Treatment for dizziness depends on the underlying cause. For inner ear issues, specific manoeuvres might be helpful. Dehydration-related dizziness requires rehydration, while medication adjustments can address dizziness caused by medications. In some cases, underlying conditions need treatment.

What are the most effective home remedies for dizziness?

Simple measures can often help manage dizziness. Staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and avoiding triggers like sudden movements can be beneficial. If you feel dizzy, sit or lie down and avoid straining.
