Acute hepatitis profile
What is being analysed?
The acute hepatitis profile evaluates the presence of specific antibodies and antigens related to hepatitis viruses. The tests include hepatitis A (IgM anti-HAV), hepatitis B (anti-HBc IgM and HBsAg), and hepatitis C (anti-HCV).
What does the result mean?
Negative or normal: Indicates that there is likely no active hepatitis infection. Positive or abnormal: May indicate current or past infection with one of the hepatitis viruses.
Why is thr analysis performed?
To detect and diagnose viral hepatitis, when there are signs and symptoms of acute hepatitis, or exposure to hepatitis viruses.
When should the analysis be performed?
When there is a suspected viral infection and after exposure to hepatitis viruses.
Is a sample required?
A venous blood sample is taken.
Is any preparation needed?
No special preparation is required for this test.
How is it used?
This test helps establish the diagnosis of viral hepatitis, and identifies the specific virus involved.
Normal values and meaning of abnormal values
Normal values vary depending on the specific test. Abnormal values may indicate active or past infection and the severity of the disease.
