Acoustic neuroma is a benign tumor on a nerve that runs from the inner ear to the brain (statoacoustic nerve) and usually affects the vestibular nerve involved in balance and hearing. Therefore, the pressure which causes the development of a neuroma can often cause problems of imbalance, hearing loss and even ringing in the ear. In addition, depending on the size of the tumor, they may show other symptoms such as facial paralysis, headache, loss of visual acuity, etc. The treatment of these tumors, also depends on its characteristics, but usually based on radiation and its removal by surgery to prevent causing more complications, such as loss of brain functions.
