Ms Adeola Olaitan is a highly esteemed consultant gynaecological oncologist at The Wellington Hospital. She specialises in the prevention, early detection and treatment of gynaecological cancers which include: ovarian cancer, uterine (womb or endometrial) cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal and vulval cancer. She can see women with symptoms suggestive of gynaecological cancer within a week or even sooner as the urgency dictates.
She is an accredited colposcopist, catering to patients with abnormal cervical screening (smear) findings, and conducts outpatient treatment, where appropriate, for this condition.
In addition, she is happy to see women with general gynaecological concerns like menorrhagia, (heavy periods) irregular menstrual cycles, and pelvic discomfort.
She conducts routine gynaecological examinations including HPV testing and cervical screening, (smear tests) and chlamydia screening. She offers Mirena coil insertion (with the option of sedation) and HPV vaccination.
Ms Olaitan was appointed consultant gynaecological oncologist at University College Hospital in January 2002. She completed her qualification at University College Hospital London in 1987, followed by specialised training in gynaecological oncology at St Michael's Hospital Bristol. Currently, she holds the position of honorary associate professor at UCL, and has over 50 peer-reviewed publications, books and book chapters. She is an active member of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society, the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, as well as the International Gynaecological Cancer Society.
