Professional statement
Mr Andrew Pooley is a consultant gynaecologist with a focus on keyhole surgery and a particular expertise in treating conditions such as endometriosis, ectopic pregnancies, and heavy menstrual bleeding using advanced laparoscopic techniques.
As a full-time NHS consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at New Victoria Hospital, he brings a contemporary approach to managing various general gynaecological issues, including prolapse, hormonal imbalances, and abnormal cervical smear results in colposcopy.
After graduating from St George’s Hospital, London, in 1987, Mr Pooley pursued his early medical training primarily in South West London, with additional stints under Professor Lord Winston at Hammersmith Hospital and a year of experience in Dublin.
He became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1993. Mr Pooley further honed his skills between 1995 and 1997 as a training fellow in minimal access surgery with Professor Sutton in Guildford, where he trained in one of the few centres offering such specialisation in the UK. His work there included significant research into laparoscopic treatments for gynaecological conditions, particularly endometriosis, ectopic pregnancy management, and endometrial ablation techniques.
In 1999, Mr Pooley joined Kingston Hospital as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, tasked with advancing the practice of minimal access surgery. He was instrumental in introducing innovative procedures, including laparoscopic laser surgery for endometriosis and Novasure Endometrial Ablation, at both Kingston Hospital and New Victoria Hospital.
