Dr Frances Humby is a consultant rheumatologist and honorary reader in London, specialising in ankylosing spondylitis, autoimmune diseases and back pain, alongside connective tissue disease, fibromyalgia and gout. She privately practises at Cleveland Clinic Portland Place Outpatient Centre.
She also has extensive expertise in managing a range of rheumatological conditions including crystal arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and Sjögren's syndrome. Dr Humby also treats musculoskeletal disorders, neck pain, polymyalgia rheumatica, tenosynovitis and soft tissue rheumatism.
Graduating with honours from University College London in 1997, Dr Humby earned her medical degree alongside a first-class intercalated degree in Genetics. She completed her specialist rheumatology training through the London Deanery and was awarded a PhD in 2010 from the University of London, focusing on the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis. Following her training, she was appointed as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at Queen Mary University of London and Barts’ and the London Hospitals. In 2021, she joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London as a Consultant Rheumatologist and Honorary Reader.
Dr Humby has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and is recognised for her specialist interest in inflammatory arthritis, as well as her broad experience in general rheumatology. She holds the position of Research and Development Lead for Rheumatology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads efforts to advance understanding and improve outcomes in rheumatic diseases.
A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Dr Humby is committed to education, regularly contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
