Professional statement
Mr Gurbinder Nandhara is a top consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery. He diagnoses and treats all foot and ankle problems. His areas of expertise include bunion surgery, flat foot correction, ankle arthritis, heel pain and high arch issues. He also treats sports-related injuries to the foot and ankle for instability, ligament injuries and cartilage defects.
He has a particular interest in plantar fasciitis and can offer treatment for those who have had no improvement with physiotherapy. He can also offer alternative treatments in the form of shockwave therapy and a novel muscle release operation to alleviate pain.
He is happy to see patients with foot problems due to diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and can offer pain-relieving and deformity correcting operations to help with mobility. For those with big toe joint arthritis and want to preserve movement in the toe, he can offer CARTIVA. This is a new implant for the big toe that may allow more movement and avoid a fusion.
Many of his procedures are now done arthroscopically (keyhole) and don’t require big incisions. This helps with post-operative healing and rehabilitation.
Mr Nandhara has over eight years' experience as a substantive consultant and has a regular NHS practice at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. Since he arrived at The George Eliot Hospital he has helped shape the future of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the hospital. He has now built a comprehensive department treating all aspects of Foot and Ankle problems.
Mr Nandhara has also given opinions on medico-legal issues regarding treatment for foot and ankle problems. He has also been a member of the General Medical Council Fitness to Practice Committee.
