Mr Ian McNab is a highly accomplished consultant hand and wrist surgeon based in Oxford. He is an expert in treating hand and wrist problems including wrist surgery, hand surgery and carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as Dupuytren’s contracture, scaphoid bone and hand arthritis.
Mr McNab completed his primary medical studies at the University of London, graduating with a Bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery (MBBS) in 1989. He then completed further training in orthopaedic surgery at at St Bartholomew's Hospital. He has been pratising as an orthopaedic surgeon since 1999, following the completion of his Certificate of completion of specialist training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery.
He also provides expertise in several non-operative and surgical management of hand and wrist problems, such as open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of hand and wrist fractures, wrist and thumb arthroscopy and joint replacement or fusion.
During his studies and medical career, Mr McNab pursued several fellowships including a fellowship at St Vincent's Hospital, University of Melbourne, Australia. He also held the role of visting overseas fellow at American Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2007.
He is committed to his work and to improving treatments for hand and wrist problems. Mr McNab has held numerous positions within medical organisations. He is currently the deputy chair of the British orthopaedic Association (BOA) and is the British Medical Association’s BMA Honorary Secretary for Oxford Region Consultant and Specialist Committee.
He also is devoted to educating the orthopaedic surgeons of the future. He is an honorary senior lecturer at the Nuffield department of orthopaedics, rheumatology & musculoskeletal Science, University of Oxford and an honorary lecturer in clinical medicine at Wadham College, University of Oxford.
Mr McNab is also a member of multiple medical assocations including The Royal College of Surgeons of England, The British Elbow & Shoulder Society and the prestigious Percivall Pott Club.
