Mr Jonathan Bird is a highly regarded consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in London who specialises in knee surgery, including partial and total knee replacement, sports injuries, arthroscopy, meniscus repair and resection, as well as joint preservation surgery for knee arthritis. Mr Bird consults privately with the renowned OS Clinic, at Harley Street Specialist Hospital, at Prime Health, at The Shard, and at The Blackheath Hospital.
Mr Bird earned his MBBS from University College London in 1997. Whilst at medical school, he joined the British Army and witnessed the highest standard of medical care afforded to the Armed Forces. His experience in the military was what first sparked his interest in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the treatment of knee injuries.
Mr Bird worked with the surgical teams in Basra, and he treated the injuries of both army personnel and Iraqi civilians who were affected by the conflict, before going on to complete specialist orthopaedic training in and around North London. He further honed his skills through the completion of a prestigious knee fellowship at University Hospital Coventry, and was later awarded the esteemed FRCS(Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons.
Currently, Mr Bird holds the position of principal knee surgeon at University Hospital Lewisham, where he founded the acute knee service so that knee injuries are detected and treated efficiently. He also serves a catchment area in London encompassing one million residents, and is the undergraduate lead for medical students at King’s College London.
