Professional statement

Dr Manish Kalla is a highly accomplished consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist, known for his patient-centred and holistic approach to managing heart rhythm disorders. He currently practises privately at The Harborne Hospital.

After graduating with distinction from the renowned Guy's, King's, and St Thomas' School of Medicine in 2003, he undertook his general medical training in London before embarking on specialised cardiology training in Cardiff. In 2011, Dr Kalla was awarded a prestigious British Heart Foundation Research Fellowship, which took him to the University of Oxford to research life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. This work culminated in a DPhil and gained him international recognition, including the British Heart Rhythm Society Young Investigator Prize in 2014. His research has been widely published in leading journals and presented at global conferences.

Dr Kalla's subspecialty training in electrophysiology and device therapy was further enriched by a fellowship in Melbourne under the guidance of Professor Jon Kalman, focusing on advanced catheter ablation techniques. Since assuming his consultant role at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in 2018, he has been dedicated to treating patients with complex arrhythmias, performing procedures such as catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and the implantation of cardiac devices like pacemakers and defibrillators.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Kalla leads the Inherited Cardiac Conditions clinic, offering expert assessment, management, and family screening for those with genetic heart conditions. His research interests remain focused on improving outcomes in atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, contributing to the advancement of electrophysiology.
