Dr Mark Samaan is a distinguished consultant gastroenterologist with extensive expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), privately practising at Cleveland Clinic London Hospital.
He has gained invaluable experience as both a clinician and researcher at leading IBD centres across the UK, The Netherlands, Canada, and the United States. Dr Samaan's international experience includes an “International IBD Clinical Trials Fellowship” with Robarts, where he actively participated in and led a variety of innovative IBD research projects.
His work has been widely published in prestigious journals, including Gut, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. He has also co-authored several book chapters on IBD and contributed to the IOIBD international consensus process on treatment targets in IBD (STRIDE) as a bibliographic fellow.
Throughout his career, Dr Samaan has been recognised with numerous awards for his contributions to clinical practice and research. Notably, he was named the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Young Gastroenterologist of the Year for Clinical & Translational Science in 2018. He has also received the St George’s Young Researcher of the Year Award twice and was a recipient of the RCP/NIHR CRN Award for Outstanding Research Leadership in the NHS.
Dr Samaan has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing education in IBD, founding the London IBD SpR Training Group and serving as the trainee member of the UK Clinical Research Network: Gastroenterology National Specialty Group for three years. He is also an active member of the Young-ECCO (Y-ECCO) committee. As a clinical research fellow at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and part of an MD program at King’s College London, Dr Samaan conducted groundbreaking research on therapeutic drug monitoring for biologic agents in IBD.
