Dr Mars Silva Skae is a top consultant paediatrician based in Manchester. Specialising in paediatric endocrinology, she is an expert in treating thyroid issues in children, childhood obesity, and disorders of sexual development (DSD).
Dr Skae qualified in medicine at the University of Sheffield, earning her MB ChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) in 1998. After gaining her membership to the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, she completed her training in paediatrics in Manchester, before pursuing further sub-speciality training in paediatric endocrinology. Next, she undertook a Clinical Research Fellowship in congenital hyperinsulinism, culminating in a postgraduate research degree from the University of Manchester.
An appointment as Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital followed in 2010. Now, Dr Skae is the clinical lead for the Department of Paediatric Endocrinology and lead clinician for paediatric obesity and disorders of sexual differentiation. She is also the Guidelines Officer for the British Society of Paediatric Endocrinology (BSPD) and was involved in updating the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance document for the management of obesity.
