Dr Pamela McHenry is a highly regarded consultant adult and paediatric dermatologist practising in the Belfast Skin Clinic, which she founded in 2016. She has over 25 years of experience and specialises in adult and paediatric and genital dermatology, hair disorders, and skin cancer screening.
Dr McHenry graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1985 and went on to undertake general medical training in the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary until 1989. In 1988 she successfully passed further exams to become a member of the Royal College of Physicians. Between 1989 and 1995, she trained in dermatology in Glasgow initially as a specialist registrar, and then as a senior registrar and clinical lecturer. In 1995, she was awarded an MD for her research on skin cancer in the elderly. During her training, she was awarded numerous awards and fellowships from The Scottish Dermatology Society, British Medical Association, and British Society of Paediatric Dermatology. She became a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in 2003.
Dr McHenry was appointed a consultant dermatologist, and later became the clinical lead, at the Western Infirmary & Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow from 1995 to 2013. From 2007 she began working part-time in her NHS role in Glasgow and began seeing patients privately in Belfast. She founded the Belfast Skin Clinic, the Belfast skin clinic, providing an integrated service for all specialties dealing with skin issues in 2006. She continues to lead as medical director.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr McHenry has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, she has contributed to the British Association of Dermatologists’ Clinical Standards for Dermatology in the UK (2011) and Clinical Standards for Paediatric Dermatology (2012), which are used to inform other dermatologists of recommended policy and treatments used to treat skin disease in the NHS. She has been awarded the Prize for Best Paper on three occasions and Prize for Best Case Presentation twice, both from the British Society of Paediatric Dermatology. Dr McHenry also holds numerous memberships of highly-regarded societies.
