Professional statement
Prof. Philip MacCarthy trained in Bristol and Oxford before completing his PhD in endothelial function at the University Hospital of Wales, supported by an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship. He then specialized in coronary intervention at King's College Hospital and the OLV Cardiac Centre in Aalst, Belgium.
Appointed Consultant Cardiologist at King's College Hospital in 2003, he became Clinical Lead for Cardiology in 2007 and Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services from 2012 to 2015. In 2014, he was appointed Professor of Interventional Cardiology at King's College London. Prof. MacCarthy specializes in coronary intervention and structural heart disease interventions, leading the PFO/ASD device closure and trans-catheter valve programs at King's. His research focuses on coronary physiology, primary angioplasty, and trans-catheter aortic and mitral interventions.
