Professor Richard Steeds is a decorated consultant cardiologist practicing at the Harborne Hospital, Birmingham. He specialises in valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathy, including rare and metabolic diseases. At his other practice with the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Birmingham, he is the Director of Clinical Research for the Cardiovascular Imaging department. He is particularly interested in non-invasive imaging, incorporating advanced echocardiography, and cardiac magnetic resonance scanning.
Professor Steeds has been recognised by several esteemed societies, holding fellowship with Royal College of Physicians in London, the European Society of Cardiology, and the British Society of Echocardiography. He is a proud member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, with which he has a Level 3 accreditation in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.
Professor Steeds is dedicated to research and investigation of the technologies of the heart, and is currently involved in many projects, including the development of an automated electronic stethoscope for the early detection of significant valvular heart disease, and researching cardiac arrhythmias in patients with rare cardiomyopathy.
