Dr Vivek Goel

Professional statement

Dr Vivek Goel is a highly established consultant gastroenterologist who specialises in luminal gastroenterology and is an advanced endoscopist. He is also an accredited colonoscopist for bowel cancer screening and is an expert in mucosal visualisation techniques, including trimodal imaging for Barrett's oesophagus and chromoendoscopy for colitis screening.

He began his gastroenterology training in East Yorkshire in 2000 and moved to South Wales in 2001, where he continued his training in Newport and Cardiff. He currently serves as the clinical lead for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) for Aneurin Bevan Health Board. His main areas of expertise include ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, Barrett's oesophagus, oesophageal cancer, pancreatitis, and both pancreatic and colorectal cancers.

In terms of procedures, he is highly experienced in endoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy. As the Clinical Lead for IBD for Aneurin Bevan Health Board, he leads a multidisciplinary team of gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, dietitians, and pharmacists in providing comprehensive IBD care. Additionally, he serves on the LNC of Aneurin Bevan Health Board and is the Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology in Wales, representing the region on the UK-wide Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) for gastroenterology training.
