Professional statement

Mr Manoj Sikand is a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in Birmingham. He specialises in hip and knee procedures, particularly joint replacement, arthroscopy and knee replacement alongside hip replacement, arthroplasty and fractures. Mr Sikand privately practises for Priory Hospital and Sutton Medical Consulting Centre, while his NHS base is Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust.

Mr Sikand is able to offer his patients choice in their surgery due to the fact he uses different implants such as ceramic joints and resurfacing in his practise. Where possible, he uses a small incision technique and aims for a safe rapid discharge for the majority of people he treats.

He is highly-qualified with an MBBS (Gold medallist with distinction) and an MS (Punjab University, 1995) while he was also awarded fellowships in his specialities at leading international centres and institutions, Duke University in North Carolina, USA, and Austin Hospital In Melbourne, Australia. Furthermore, he is a fellow of both The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (2001 and 2008).

Mr Sikand's research has featured in peer-reviewed journals including JBJS American and Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has been awarded for his research, too, receiving first prize for Best Research Paper Presentation. He also passes on his knowledge via free talks to GPs about updating skills for clinical examinations and injection therapy, and lectures on recent advances in the orthopaedic hip and knee field. He has been awarded for his teaching by his NHS trust, winning the Excellence in Education prize at its' annual Star Awards.
