Mr Lorenzo Motta is an esteemed consultant ophthalmic surgeon, based in Tunbridge Wells. He is a member of the team at Tunbridge Wells Eye Centre, and specialises in a wide range of conditions and treatments, including retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, cataract surgery, vitrectomy and diabetic retinopathy.
Mr Motta earned his medical degree from the prestigious University of Medicine - Campus Bio-Medico of Rome, Italy, and graduated with honours in ophthalmology from the University of Catania, Italy.
Following his medical studies, he pursued further cataract training at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Western Eye Hospital, London. He then completed subspecialty training in both medical and surgical retina at Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust Hospitals, East Surrey Hospital. Moreover, he undertook a two-year advanced senior fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the renowned King’s College Hospital, London.
In addition to his practice, Mr Motta holds a strong interest in clinical research and earned his PhD from the University of Catania. He continues to be actively involved in research through his peer-reviewed publications, participation in clinical trials, and role as an invited reviewer for medical journals. He frequently presents at national and international conferences.
He is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI), and serves on the Board of Directors of the Ophthalmology Society of Universities (Italy, SOU). In 2011, he was recognised as a member of the GOTA “Young Talented Ophthalmologists” of the SOI.
Mr Motta also engages in voluntary ophthalmology work, including charitable cataract surgeries in Ethiopia.
