Miss Manju Chandran is a highly esteemed Consultant Ophthalmologist with over two decades of experience in treating a wide range of eye conditions. She is widely recognized for her expertise in managing complex cases related to cataracts, retinal disorders—including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO)—as well as general and emergency ophthalmology.
 
Having completed her medical training in India, Miss Chandran has been practicing in the UK for the past 18 years. She has a specialist interest in retinal diseases and cataract surgery but also manages Emergency and General Ophthalmology. Her clinical expertise includes intravitreal therapeutic procedures, cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, and laser surgery involving both the anterior and posterior segments, including the retina and vitreous.
 
Currently, she serves as the Clinical Lead for the Ophthalmology Department, where she has successfully spearheaded several innovative projects, including the establishment of the Cataract Surgery Hub at Heatherwood. Additionally, she holds the prestigious role of Regional Clinical Lead for the Southeast, collaborating closely with NHS England to enhance ophthalmic services across the region. She has played a pivotal role in the development and implementation of the High-Volume Cataract Surgery (HVLC) pathway in the region. She has also been instrumental in digitalizing the cataract surgery pathway using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, an initiative that earned her the Highly Commended HSJ Award.
 
Her dedication to advancing patient care is reflected in her active involvement in research, serving as Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials focusing on the management of Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Retinal Vein occlusions. She frequently presents at national and international ophthalmic conferences, sharing her expertise as a speaker and contributor to the field.
 
Beyond clinical practice, Miss Chandran is deeply passionate about education and mentorship. Her commitment to training the next generation of ophthalmologists has earned her widespread respect in the academic community, culminating in her recognition as the Best Trainer Award recipient in 2022. Her contributions to ophthalmology have also been acknowledged through the National Clinical Excellence Award.
 
She is an active member of the VISION 2020 programme, playing a crucial role in diabetic retinopathy training and teaching initiatives in Zambia and St. Lucia.
